Recoloring an image using the coloring style of another image

Nature is a master in coloring. It often minimizes the variety of colors used and arouses comfortable and astonishing sensations. For fun, I wrote a small piece of code (available here) that recolors an image using the coloring style of another image. The current version is quite naive (based on clustering of colors using a global optimization algorithm), but has generated plausible results for many cases. Here are some applications:

1. Web design (e.g., recoloring icons)

2. Package design (e.g., recoloring an item)

3.  Artwork (e.g., generating desired feelings when drawing)

4. Upholstery (e.g., recoloring a room)recolor.001
